Building for Bible Engagement at the Gloo AI Hackathon
Discover how developers at the 2026 Gloo AI Hackathon leveraged YouVersion Platform APIs to bring Scripture into everyday digital spaces and hard-to-reach areas, empowering the global church through innovative technology.

Life’s most meaningful and difficult moments happen every day. People need the truth and hope that God’s Word provides, whether they’re in a hospital waiting room, at work, or in places where the Bible is difficult to access.
In a world where more people are turning to technology for answers, how can Scripture be seamlessly incorporated into those spaces to meet individuals in their most important moments?
At the 2026 Gloo AI Hackathon, YouVersion and Biblica hosted the Bible Track, challenging builders to use technology to more closely integrate the Bible into everyday life, whether through social media or for someone who cannot easily access it.
Why? Because the Bible should be available everywhere and to everyone, every day. And whether it’s the person scrolling through social media or someone in an area where Scripture access is restricted, the Bible is for them.
“Our mission, our focus, is to equip the global church to make Scripture and related content available,” said Gaylen Washington, Sr. Head of YouVersion Platform Engineering. That mission is at the core of the Bible Track, helping builders with that same passion discover how YouVersion Platform can help make their app ideas a reality.
The Bible Track had two lanes: activation and access.
The activation lane focused on meeting people with Scripture in the digital environments they already spend time in. Builders connected people in these spaces with God’s Word so they could find truth in any moment. A wide variety of innovative ideas were entered, including positive social media alternatives, family devotional apps, and community-building Bible experiences.
The access lane focused on bringing the Bible into spaces where access is constrained or dangerous. In some places, owning a Bible or opening a Bible app can put someone at risk. Builders had many creative ideas to help people in these areas access Scripture.
A total of 121 teams were entered in preliminary judging, with 34 teams in the Bible Track. Every project represents passion for Scripture and innovative ways to make the Bible more accessible.
Scott Molvar, Sr. Head of Product at YouVersion, said, “We don’t have to build every experience. We need to empower others to build experiences with us.” YouVersion Platform makes its SDKs and APIs widely available so that others who are passionate about the Bible can continue to make it known! Builders can include Scripture by pulling in text, creating a fully functional Bible reader, or adding Scripture cards. YouVersion can’t reach everyone alone, but working together has the potential to reach the world.
The Best of Bible Track award went to Envoy Mission, a nonprofit focused on helping seekers in hard-to-reach places encounter God’s Word. For someone in a place where Scripture is hard to come by, Envoy’s work makes a real difference in how they live out their faith in Jesus.
Using YouVersion Platform APIs, the team was able to quickly get a Bible reader in multiple languages to serve people all over the world. And that’s why YouVersion Platform exists—to equip people with the tools they need to bring their Bible experiences to life.
